Client Case Study
We recently conducted a retained campaign for Accord Mortgages, to aid them with their growth in the South of England. Accord Mortgages is the specialist lending arm of the Yorkshire Building Society, one of the largest building societies in the UK. They have 1.9 million members and assets of £17.6 billion.
Yorkshire Building Society is a mutual organisation, meaning they’re owned by, and run for the benefit of their members, and not external shareholders. With the recent growth in the Mortgage Lending market, Accord was keen to increase their market share in the South.
The Challenge Due to competitive market conditions and the reduced brand awareness of the Accord name in the South, Accord had to invest a significant sum into their growth plans, highlighting their commitment to development in this area. They wished to express this commitment by recruiting the best sales individuals the market had to offer, as swiftly as possible.
The Action In September 2006, SLM conducted a thorough salary review of the Business Development Manager market. The aim of this was to enable us to advise Accord on the salary packages they would need to offer, in order to attract individuals who were currently top quartile within their current employers.
Our survey identified salary details including basic packages and total earnings. As a result, we could then suggest the figures required to attract the best individuals in the market, and perhaps most importantly, the level at which Accord needed to be pitching their minimum basic salaries. We worked alongside them to develop a salary package flexible enough to secure the very best talent, and with our objective clearly in mind, we set about taking the Accord proposition to market; the response was outstanding.
The Result In total, we contacted over 1000 individuals and presented over 100 candidates to Accord for interview, clearly demonstrating our ability to attract high numbers of talented individuals.
The assignment was a resounding success. Not only were we able to build one of the finest teams of Business Development Managers within the market; we also secured the National Account Manager and a Regional Sales Manager to complete the successful outcome of the project.
In conclusion, we were able to recruit 9 Business Development Managers, 4 Internal Development Managers, a Regional Sales Manager and a Corporate Account Manager, all of which served to demonstrate our ability to identify and attract a defined number of high calibre individuals. In addition, we worked very closely with Accord throughout the entire assignment in order to develop an understanding, which in turn enabled us to streamline the recruitment process.
